The people of United States showed up and spoke out on October 18. 20,000 people came out in Madison, Wisconsin alone. While 7 million people throughout the states showed up on the streets, all through nonviolent protests.
Something I must acknowledge; when people unite through numbers, there is simply something that seems unstoppable. Nevertheless, it is not what you did today or yesterday that will change the trajectory of everyone’s livelihood. It is how you show up everyday.
I stand for compassion and hope one day we can unite through it but this alone will not bring forward collective consciousness. We will continue to build our communities. Ultimately, we must advance our understanding of each other and our neighbors but most importantly we must get to know ourselves and where we fit in building ourselves and others in a collective community.
Showing up for others often means showing up for yourself. After all if you can’t fight your own battles how can you help others fight theirs?
